Forged of mithral and adamantine and worked with the Runes of [[Moradin]], it is counted among the finest weapons ever made by a mortal smith, and is the most famous example of the dwarven art of runesmithing in the 31st century PD. Since Thuldar's death in 3036 PD, it has been displayed in the Hall of [[Moradin]] in [[Khaztharim]]. ### Appearance Forgestriker is an ornate, short-hafted warhammer, made to be swung in one hand, with a heavy, square-faced head of silvery mithral banded in gold and engraved with dwarven runes that glow a deep, embery orange, like coals in a forge. Its short, dark haft is wrapped in gold bindings. Despite the weight of its metals, Thuldar was said to wield it as easily as a smith wields a forge hammer. ### Properties The runes worked into Forgestriker give it a number of well-recorded powers. Each blow it strikes is wreathed in fire, burning those it hits, and it strikes with far greater force than any mundane weapon. When thrown, it returns to its wielder's hand at once. It also warns its bearer of danger, so that neither they nor any companion close by can be taken by surprise, and it is said to wake its wielder and their allies from sleep the moment a fight begins. It is believed that only a wielder of immense strength can draw upon its power. ### History Forgestriker was forged by Thuldar in [[Brazenthrone]] and completed on Deep Solace, the 18th of Heatswrath, 2986 PD. Like the masterpieces of many master smiths before him, it was shown to him in visions from [[Moradin]], and when at last he began the work, he found himself smithing in ways unknown even to him, possessed by the spirit of the All-Hammer. He worked without rest for days, and through that connection learned the Runes of [[Moradin]], working them into the hammer as he went. When he finished on the holy day itself, he had become the champion of [[Moradin]]. Thuldar carried Forgestriker for the remaining fifty years of his life, through his clearing of the Old Palace of [[Brazenthrone]] in 3032 PD, the defence of [[Rexsall]] against the vampires of [[Jairus]] that same year, and his final battle in the [[Battle of Rexsall]] in 3036 PD. After his death, his widow, [[Torlyn Hammerforge]], donated the hammer, along with his mithral plate and spellguard shield, to the Hall of [[Moradin]] in [[Khaztharim]], where it remains on display among the honoured works of the All-Hammer's champions. ### Known Wielders - [[Thuldar Hammerforge]] † - Champion of [[Moradin]], who forged it on Deep Solace, 2986 PD, and wielded it until his death in 3036 PD.
