Founded during the [[Dawn-War]] by a paladin of [[Corellon]], the house spent most of its history as a minor family of jewellers in the [[Vianduroz Province]] of [[Illalenora]], before moving to [[Aekacira (Country)|Aekacira]] in 1128 PD. Since becoming the lords of [[Amberholt]], they have greatly increased the wealth of the city, turning it into the largest and richest in [[Aekacira (Country)|Aekacira]], built upon the gemstones, platinum and mithral mined beneath the mountains of its northern border. The house's greatest heirloom is [[Azure's Edge]], a Moonblade that has passed between its members since the house was founded, though it has been many years since it last chose a bearer. ### History House Sylvaris traces its founding to the [[Dawn-War]], to the Great Meadows of [[Laphithas Desert|Laphithas]] at the start of the war's third century. Among the [[Elves]] who rode to that battle was Aerendyl Sylvaris, a paladin of [[Corellon]], who fought beneath [[Eilistraee]] against [[Gruumsh]] and his demon hordes, and who was there when [[Corellon]] struck down the Ruiner and left the field as quickly as he had come. In the aftermath, it was [[Eilistraee]], not her father, who honoured those who had held the line, blessing the weapons of the soldiers of that battle, and each became a Moonblade, said to carry something of her own light. Aerendyl's own rapier was among them, and he was the first to wield his, naming it Valsatra, [[Azure's Edge]], and he founded his own house with the rapier as its symbol, as it remains upon the arms of House Sylvaris to this day. When [[Corellon|Corellon's]] repeated absences drove most of his [[Elves]] to retreat into the [[Feywild]], the Sylvaris were among the few who stayed, fighting on at [[Eilistraee|Eilistraee's]] side until the war's end, a loyalty the house still counts among its greatest prides. [[Azure's Edge]] chose its second bearer before the war was done, Aerendyl's great-niece Ilythra Sylvaris. In the centuries after the [[Divergence]], House Sylvaris settled as a minor house in the [[Vianduroz Province]] of [[Illalenora]], where it became known less for its blades than for its jewellers. By the 12th century PD, the family had come to believe that its talents would be better rewarded elsewhere, and in 1128 PD the head of the house, Thandor Sylvaris, led the family across the sea to [[Aekacira (Country)|Aekacira]]. [[Stacia]] was never seriously considered, as relations between its humans and elves were poor and the [[Stacien Empire]] had begun to lose its hold over the countries that would one day break away from it. Instead, the family chose [[Goldsgrove]], the most prosperous of [[Aekacira (Country)|Aekacira's]] kingdoms, and settled in [[Amberholt]], on its northern border beneath the southern mountains of [[Demolduhr]], whose stone showed great promise. Thandor died of old age not long after the family arrived, and it fell to his son, Renval Sylvaris, to build the house's fortunes in its new home. Renval worked closely with House Amberholt, then the lords of the city, and in 1274 PD the two houses together secured the rights to mine beneath the mountains. Their ship was lost in a storm, and it was later learned that it had broken upon the rocks off the coast of Manitrie, where the lord and lady washed ashore. The couple had always wished for heirs but had none, and in their will they left [[Amberholt]] to House Sylvaris, trusting that the city would be in good hands. Renval Sylvaris became Lord of [[Amberholt]] late in 1307 PD, and the mining rights passed to the house with the seat. The crown of [[Goldsgrove]] puts the rights to tender every twenty years, and House Sylvaris has won every bid since. There were those who blamed the shipwreck on elven trickery, and some still do, but no evidence has ever been found that the Sylvaris had any part in it, and as jewellers they were already making a great deal of money. As lord, Renval did more than any other to make House Sylvaris the power it is today. He first built the house's ties with royalty at home and abroad, and the house's fortunes boomed once it began to work with the [[Aekaciran Mage's Guild]] and the [[Aekaciran Merchant's Guild]], supplying material to artisans, jewellery to noble houses and components to spellcasters. Under House Sylvaris, [[Amberholt]] grew into the largest and richest city in [[Aekacira (Country)|Aekacira]], much to the dismay of [[House Redhayn]] of [[Goldhearth]], though the two houses have no quarrel. Over the centuries the crown of [[Goldsgrove]] has taken loans from House Sylvaris, and has always paid its rates and its interest. Renval was also the third bearer of [[Azure's Edge]], and it was his granddaughter, Saelis Sylvaris, who became the fourth.
