The elder son of Corellon and Lolth, and twin brother to Eilistraee, he coveted his father's greater divinity and his place as lord of the Elves, and betrayed him during the Schism in an attempt to seize it. He was slain by his sister before he could gather any great following, making him one of only two Deities of Aeborhia known to have died, alongside Sardior. Vhaeraun is little known in Aeborhia today. What is recorded of him comes almost entirely from ancient elven histories, in which he is remembered not as a god to be worshipped, but as a warning. ### Depiction Few depictions of Vhaeraun survive. The ancient elven records that mention him describe a handsome male drow dressed in black, his face hidden behind a black half-mask, and claim that the few who followed him hid their faces in the same way. It is from these accounts that the half-mask is known as his symbol, and from them that he takes the name the Masked Lord. ### Divine Domains No cleric of Vhaeraun is known to history. ### Holy Day Vhaeraun has no holy day. ### Commandments of Vhaeraun No commandments of Vhaeraun are known. If he ever taught anything to his few followers, it was lost with him. ### History - #### The Age of Founding Vhaeraun was born in the Age of Founding, the elder of twin children to Corellon and his bride Lolth. While his younger sister Eilistraee was favoured by their father, Vhaeraun came to covet Corellon's greater divinity and his place in the Pantheon as lord of the Elves. During the Schism, as Corellon fought Gruumsh, the Ruiner, Vhaeraun caused his father's blade to snap in two. As Corellon fled for Arborea, Vhaeraun and Gruumsh tracked him down together, and it was then that Eilistraee appeared and faced her brother in battle. While the two greater gods fought, the twins duelled, and when Corellon turned to face his children, he found that his daughter had killed her brother. Vhaeraun's death drove both Eilistraee and Corellon into a long grief, and drove Lolth to madness, turning her against the Pantheon. - #### The Age of Arcanum Though Vhaeraun was gone, his death continued to shape the world. The drow who remained loyal to Lolth in the Underdark built their cities into cruel matriarchies in her name, while Eilistraee spent the age freeing those who wished to escape them. - #### The Dawn-War When Lolth was released at the start of the Dawn-War, it was her grief for Vhaeraun that drove her final battle in Zeshana, where she unleashed her full power on Eilistraee, her son's killer, before being banished by Kord and Corellon. To this day, Lolth blames Corellon, Eilistraee and even Gruumsh, who hunted Corellon alongside her son, for his death. - #### Post Dawn-War Vhaeraun has been all but forgotten. Among the Elves, his story survives as a cautionary tale of ambition and betrayal, and of what becomes of a child who turns on their parent. ### Modern Worship of Vhaeraun There is practically no worship of Vhaeraun in Aeborhia today. A handful of small cells are thought to exist among the followers of Lolth in the Underdark, venerating him as her lost son, but they hold no notoriety. In the matriarchal societies of the drow, where males are held in little regard, the worship of a dead male god earns little respect. ### Known Worshippers of Vhaeraun #### Champions *Not Known* #### Other Worshippers *Not Known*
