He is the patron of jailers, torturers and slavers, and those who rob others of their freedom offer him their prayers in cellars, dungeons and other places beneath the earth. In the Age of Founding, Torog carved the endless tunnels and caverns of the Underdark, making a world beneath the world where darkness could thrive, and many of the creatures that dwell in that darkness still revere him as its maker. Since his banishment at the end of the Dawn-War, he has been bound at the borders of the Far Realm, in a sliver of that alien plane that now lies beneath the deepest pits of the Underdark, where the boundaries between worlds grow thin and give birth to terrible abominations bent on subjugation. ### Depiction The Crawling King is depicted as a swollen, malformed worm that slithers through the dark below, with a screaming, hairless human head at its helm and three arms carving through the lightless rock. The crude idols found in his hidden shrines often show only those three pale arms, reaching out of a void of darkness, and it is this image that his worshippers carry as his holy symbol. ### Divine Domains Torog's clerics are most often granted powers of Death, Trickery or Order. ### Holy Day Torog has no holy day. His worship has always been a thing of secrecy and darkness, and his followers offer their prayers whenever they take a new prisoner or inflict new pain in his name. ### Commandments of Torog - Seek and exalt places where no light touches. - Revel in the pain you inflict on others, and relish the pain you suffer yourself as an offering to Torog. - Imprison those who cannot resist you, and drag all life into the darkness. ### Enemies of Torog Above all others, the Crawling King hates Moradin. It was the All-Hammer who hunted him through his own tunnels at the end of the Dawn-War and dragged him into the borders of the Far Realm, and Torog has never forgiven him. That hatred extends to Moradin's children, for the Dwarves share the realm beneath the earth that Torog claims as his own, and their great holds are bright with forge-fire where he would have only darkness. Torog also loathes Pelor, whose light he despises above all things and whose sunlight pierced him in the Schism, and Erathis, whose trickery drew him out of the dark to his first defeat. ### History - #### The Age of Founding In the Age of Founding, while the other Deities shaped the lands and seas and the peoples who would dwell upon them, Torog looked beneath them. He carved the Underdark out of the deep rock of the world, a vast web of tunnels and caverns where no light could reach, making places where darkness could thrive. Every one of those tunnels, however far it wound, he made to converge at a single point beneath what is now Vangrallag, the place where Zur-Irqaz would one day stand. During the Schism, Torog joined the Betrayer Gods against the Pantheon. His servants rose from the Underdark to fall upon the young cities of Erathis, dragging their people down into the dark to be imprisoned and tortured in his tunnels. Erathis drew him out by offering herself as bait, walling one of her cities in Stacia and letting it seem unguarded, and the Crawling King came up out of the earth to claim it. Once he was above ground, Pelor pierced his body with ten thousand lances of sunlight, and together the two gods cast Torog deep into the Far Realm. The city itself has long since fallen to ruin, and its name and location have been lost. - #### The Age of Arcanum Torog spent the Age of Arcanum imprisoned deep within the Far Realm, though the creatures of the Underdark kept his worship alive in the dark places he had made for them. - #### The Dawn-War At the start of the Dawn-War, Torog was released along with the other Betrayer Gods. With every tunnel of the Underdark converging beneath Zur-Irqaz, the colossal mountain fortress of the Betrayer Gods in Vangrallag, the Crawling King became its jailer. Its depths filled with prisoners of war taken from across Aeborhia, and the dungeons beneath it became the most feared place in the world. His servants moved unseen through the Underdark, striking at cities from below and dragging their captives down into the dark. His end came when Pelor and Moradin led an all-out assault on Zur-Irqaz, one of the most devastating battles of the Dawn-War, in which thousands of warriors, demons and many of Pelor's Swords fell before its walls. By its end, three of the Betrayer Gods were banished: Bane cast into Acheron, Zehir hurled into the Astral Sea, and Torog bound to the borders of the Far Realm. As the fortress fell, Torog tried to flee into his own tunnels. Moradin and his Dwarves, at home beneath the earth, pursued him through the dark, and when at last they caught him, the All-Hammer physically dragged the Crawling King into the borders of the Far Realm, binding him there. The ordeal left Moradin grievously wounded in both body and mind, and he would not return to the field for the remainder of the war. - #### Post Dawn-War Torog has remained bound at the borders of the Far Realm since the Divergence, in a sliver of that plane beneath the deepest pits of the Underdark. Though he can no longer crawl through the world he made, his worship endures in its darkness, and in the cellars and dungeons of the world above. ### Modern Worship of Torog No nation or city openly worships the Crawling King, and his faith is outlawed across Aekacira and Stacia. On the surface, he is prayed to in secret by jailers, torturers and slavers, in cellars, dungeons and other places hidden beneath the earth. In the Underdark, his worship is far more open. Many of the creatures that dwell in the dark below, among them the grey dwarves, troglodytes and kuo-toa, revere him as the maker of their world. A few of the drow pay him homage too, though most of their worship, even in the taking of slaves, belongs to Lolth. Where the Far Realm presses against the deepest pits of the Underdark, the borders of his prison are said to breed abominations bent on subjugation, and some scholars tie this to the theory that the Illithids first came into the world through the Far Realm. In Togas, the slavers who ship their captives out from the port of Roca pray to a nameless god of slavers, and most have no idea who he truly is. The learned among them know, and openly worship Torog by name, though only deep in the jungle, never in a civilised place, not even in Roca itself. At the foot of Zur-Irqaz, the scholars of Greywatch have begun to uncover entrances to the fortress's old dungeons. Strange things are reported there, from tools vanishing without trace to dreams shared among strangers, and some blame them on the tunnels of the Crawling King below. ### Known Worshippers of Torog #### Champions *Not Known* #### Other Worshippers *Not Known*
