### About
Tiamat, the Scaled Tyrant, is the greater goddess of greed, envy and hoarded wealth, the evil queen of the chromatic dragons, and one of the Betrayer Gods. Together with her counterpart Bahamut, she created the dragons of Aeborhia in the Age of Founding, and the hatred between the two is as old as the dragons themselves. While the chromatic dragons are her foremost worshippers, Tiamat accepts the worship of any who crave wealth, and her cults have survived in the shadows of the world long after her defeat. Since the end of the Dawn-War, she has been imprisoned on Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, under the watch of Asmodeus, from where she influences the souls of chromatic dragons across the planes and seeks the means to free herself.
### Depiction
Most representations of Tiamat survive only as warnings within the sanctuaries of Bahamut. She is shown as a drake of frightful size, with massive leathery wings spreading clouds of poisonous mist, while she roars from five vicious dragon heads, each one a colour of her chromatic children: red, blue, green, black and white. One such image is carved into the walls of the caves atop Mount Rexsall, showing Bahamut defeating his five-headed counterpart. Her holy symbol shows those same five heads, spiralling out from a single point.
### Divine Domains
Tiamat's clerics are most often granted powers of Order, Trickery or War.
### Holy Day
Tiamat has no holy day. Her worship has been hunted for thousands of years, and her cults gather in secret whenever they dare.
### Commandments of Tiamat
- Amass wealth, but spend little. The gold, and the power that comes with it, is sufficient reward in itself.
- Do not forgive nor forget an indignity to yourself. Let no affront go unpunished.
- Take what you covet. Those without the strength to defend their dominion are not worthy to have one.
### Enemies of Tiamat
The Scaled Tyrant's hatred for Bahamut is as old as the Age of Founding, and it is he she despises above all others. He defeated her in both the Schism and the Dawn-War, and for thousands of years his paladins have hunted her cults wherever they are found.
She also holds a deep hatred for Erathis, who stood beside Bahamut at her final defeat, and for Asmodeus, the Lord of the Hells, whose bargain with the Lawbearer made him her jailer.
### History
- #### The Age of Founding
In the Age of Founding, Tiamat worked alongside Bahamut to create the dragons. Together they created the lesser god Sardior, the Ruby Dragon and patron of gem dragons, who then worked with each of them to create the many species of dragons seen in Aeborhia today. With Sardior, Tiamat created the chromatic dragons, beings of greed and fury, and they have revered her as their queen ever since.
During the Schism, Tiamat turned against the Pantheon and joined the Betrayer Gods. Early in the war, she and an earth primordial fought Sardior, and the Ruby Dragon was destroyed, making him one of only two Deities of Aeborhia known to have died. His body shattered into thousands of pieces, which were scattered across the world as the eggs of the gem dragons. After Sardior's death, Bahamut met his counterpart in battle at Rexsall, where he defeated her and imprisoned her in an unknown layer of the Abyss.
- #### The Age of Arcanum
Though Tiamat was imprisoned, her worshippers carried on without her. In the frozen north of Klioslane, beyond where Hastgrave stands today, they built a city in her honour, ruled over by a great white dragon. Over the centuries, champions of many gods journeyed north to face it, and their frozen bodies would be found in its depths long afterwards, among them warriors of Kord, a paladin of the Everlight and a knight in blue plate bearing a golden sun, of an order unknown in Aeborhia. In time, the city was lost beneath the ice, until 3033 PD, when the Temple of the Platinum Dragon uncovered it in a ravine north of Hastgrave, with Group 8274 guarding the expedition. The white dragon still lived, and it was slain there by Group 8274.
- #### The Dawn-War
At the start of the Dawn-War, Tiamat was released along with the other Betrayer Gods, and many of Bahamut's battles in the war were fought against her. To stand against her, Bahamut created seven golden dragons, raising them as his sons and sending each to guard a different part of the world.
Near the end of the war, a divine champion of Tiamat, whose name was never recorded, slew Kaigorith, the firstborn of Bahamut's sons and the guardian of Rexsall. Tiamat then marched on Rexsall to present her counterpart with the body of his son. There, Bahamut and Erathis fought the Scaled Tyrant in a battle that lasted days, while armies of clerics and paladins fought one another in the names of their gods. At its end, Bahamut and Erathis stood victorious.
With Tiamat defeated, the only Betrayer God remaining was Asmodeus, the Lord of the Hells. After lengthy negotiations with Erathis, Asmodeus left the Material Plane willingly and imprisoned Tiamat on Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. The terms of this deal have never been revealed, though many myths and rumours are whispered about them.
- #### Post Dawn-War
Tiamat has remained imprisoned on Avernus since the Divergence, held there by Asmodeus. From her prison, she continues to influence the souls of chromatic dragons across the planes, and seeks the means to free herself.
### Modern Worship of Tiamat
The chromatic dragons remain Tiamat's foremost worshippers, and all of them hold a fearful reverence for their tyrannical queen, though many of the most powerful chafe under her rule and serve her only as far as it serves their own hoards. Among mortals, she accepts the worship of any who crave wealth, and small cults of greedy merchants, nobles and thieves pray to her in secret.
Her faith is hunted wherever the paladins of Bahamut walk, above all in Rexsall and Rexzaryn, and her worship is outlawed across Stacia and Aekacira.
