It was Sehanine who wove Chorilia, the moon of Aeborhia, into the night sky, so that it might pull the tides and keep the rhythm of the world, and the fourth day of every week, Weaversday, is named in her honour. Playful and elusive, she is a goddess of shadows and misdirection, though never of cruelty, for her shadows have always been used to shelter rather than to harm. In the Schism and the Dawn-War she raised her hand against no god, but hid those who could not defend themselves in her forests and guided them to safety by the light of her moon. Those who work in darkness and trickery ask her blessing, as do lovers, whose meetings she is said to protect with shadows of her own making. She dwells among the verdant tangles of Arborea, watching over the elven courts, though she often wanders the colourful fields of the Feywild. ### Depiction The Moonweaver's likenesses are as many as the tales of her meddling in the loves of mortals. She is most often shown as a young elven woman with pale blue skin and white hair, her body and limbs dissolving into silken strands of silver moonlight that caress and shape the edges of the shadows around her. In the forests and wilds, her shrines often show her only as Chorilia itself, with a silver bow drawn across it, the same image carried by her holy symbol: a crescent moon turned upward, strung like a bow. ### Divine Domains Sehanine's clerics are most often granted powers of Nature, Trickery or Twilight. ### Holy Day Sehanine's holy day is Moonsbirth, held on the night of the first full moon of Redfall, celebrating the night she wove Chorilia into the sky. As the moon rises, the Elves of the forests and wilds gather to dance in moonlit glades, while illusions, costumes and masked pranks run through the night. Younger Elves delight in tricking one another, while their elders take a slyer pleasure in mischief of their own. In towns and cities, her shrines open their reflecting pools to the moon, so that all who visit may see Chorilia shining up from beneath their feet. ### Commandments of Sehanine - Seize your own destiny by pursuing your passions. - Let the shadows protect you from the burning light of fanatical good and the absolute darkness of evil. - Walk unbridled and untethered, forging new memories and experiences. ### Enemies of Sehanine Sehanine makes war on no one, but she has never hidden which side she stands on. Through her kinship with Eilistraee, whom she drew out of her grief after the death of Vhaeraun, she opposes Lolth and her hold over the drow, and she has no love for those who would burn or tame the wild forests she shelters. Her faith teaches distrust of fanatics of every kind, whether they march beneath the banners of good or evil. Among the gods, she is closest to Corellon, Melora and Eilistraee. ### History - #### The Age of Founding Sehanine was born among the Pantheon at its forming. When the gods first shaped Aeborhia, she wove Chorilia and set it in the night sky, so that it might rule the tides and give the world its rhythm, and she named the fourth day of the week, Weaversday, as her own. To the Elves who wandered the forests and wilds she gave the gift of moving unseen through shadow and moonlight, and many of them have looked to her ever since. When the Schism divided the Pantheon, Sehanine stood with the Prime Deities, but she raised her hand against no god. Instead, she defended those who could not defend themselves. Mortals fleeing the armies of the Betrayer Gods and the Primordials were hidden in her forests, cloaked in her illusions, and guided to safety by the light of her moon, while the night itself was turned against those who hunted them. It was also in the Schism that Sehanine came to Eilistraee. After the young goddess slew her brother Vhaeraun to save her father, she fell into a deep grief, and it was the Moonweaver who sat with her beneath the moon and drew her out of it. From that time the two goddesses of the moonlight have shared a close kinship, and when Eilistraee rose to stand against her mother, she did so with Sehanine's blessing. - #### The Age of Arcanum Through the Age of Arcanum, Sehanine remained close to the Elves of the forests and wilds, and to lovers of every kind. Many of the tales of her meddling in mortal romances, of secret meetings hidden in shadow and unlikely matches made under the full moon, are said to date from this age. - #### The Dawn-War When the Dawn-War came, Sehanine again took no part in the battles between the gods, but sheltered those caught beneath them. As the Elves, disheartened by Corellon's absences, retreated into the Feywild, it was Sehanine who wove the shadows and illusions that hid their passage, and she watched over them there until the war was done. - #### Post Dawn-War At the Divergence, Sehanine left the Material Plane alongside the rest of the Pantheon. She dwells now in Arborea, near the elven courts of Corellon, though she often wanders the Feywild, and her moon still rises over Aeborhia each night. ### Modern Worship of Sehanine Sehanine is worshipped most devoutly by the Elves of the forests and wilds, such as those of the Guewood and the elves of Zaenov, who keep her rites in moonlit glades rather than in temples of stone. In towns and cities, her shrines are small and quiet, and most often stand beside those of Corellon, with whom they share clergy and worshippers, as in Kraesuine and Zhavrin's Gate. Her shrines are dim and contemplative, often built around reflecting pools angled to catch the moonlight. Beyond the Elves, lovers seek her blessing on their meetings, illusionists and those who work by night ask for her favour, and fishers and sailors give thanks to her for the tides that Chorilia brings. ### Known Worshippers of Sehanine #### Champions *Not Known* #### Other Worshippers - Naeris Duskwhisper - Head of the Shrine of Sehanine in Kraesuine.
