### About
Sardior, the Ruby Dragon, was the lesser god of psionics, the first-born of dragonkind in Aeborhia and the patron of the gem dragons. Created by Bahamut and Tiamat together in the Age of Founding, in their own likeness, he worked beside each of them to shape the dragons of Aeborhia, and was remembered less as a warrior than as a mind, the first of all dragons to master the powers of thought. He was destroyed early in the Schism, making him one of only two Deities of Aeborhia known to have died, alongside Vhaeraun. From the shattered pieces of his body came the gem dragons, and it is among them, and among those who study the powers of the mind, that his memory is still honoured today.
### Depiction
Sardior is remembered as a unique ruby dragon, his long, sinewy body covered in deep ruby-red scales. From a distance he was often mistaken for a great red dragon, until his playful manner and sharp wit revealed his true nature, and the few accounts that survive of him describe a great conversationalist, as curious as he was wise. His symbol is a dragon's egg covered in gems, with a ruby at its heart, surrounded by the amethyst, crystal, emerald, sapphire and topaz of the gem dragons born from him.
### Divine Domains
No cleric of Sardior is known to history. Those who honour him today seek knowledge and mastery of the mind rather than divine power.
### Holy Day
Sardior has no holy day.
### Commandments of Sardior
No commandments of Sardior are known. He is said to have asked little of those who followed him, leaving them free to make their own choices.
### History
- #### The Age of Founding
In the Age of Founding, Bahamut and Tiamat worked together to create the dragons, and the first of their creations was Sardior, a ruby-red jewel of a dragon made in their likeness. Sardior then worked with each of them in turn, shaping the metallic dragons with Bahamut and the chromatic dragons with Tiamat, and so became the first-born of all dragonkind in Aeborhia. His home was the Ruby Palace, a vast castle that floated high above the world, always cloaked in shadow, so that on the nights it could be seen, mortals mistook it for a small red moon.
Sardior was the first dragon to master the powers of the mind, and he chose five champions to stand as his guard, the thanes of his court. Each was among the first of the gem dragonborn, and each was imbued with a different psionic force, matched to their own colour: Aleithrax of amethyst, master of telekinesis; Hrodelyss of crystal, whose inner light could see what was hidden; Smargathor of emerald, who spoke mind to mind and bent the perceptions of others; Charivex of sapphire, who heard the echoes of what was to come; and Tithrazar of topaz, who could wither and drain with a thought.
When the Schism began and Tiamat turned against the Pantheon, Sardior stood apart from her. Early in the war, he was brought to battle by Tiamat and an earth primordial. His five thanes fell before him, one by one, in his defence, and at last the Ruby Dragon himself was destroyed. His body shattered into thousands of pieces, which were scattered across the world as the eggs of the gem dragons, and with his death, the Ruby Palace ceased to exist. Bahamut later met Tiamat in battle at Rexsall, where he defeated her and imprisoned her in the Abyss.
- #### The Age of Arcanum
The gem dragons that hatched from Sardior's remains spread across the world in five breeds, amethyst, crystal, emerald, sapphire and topaz, and many inherited something of his gift for the powers of the mind.
- #### The Dawn-War
Sardior played no part in the Dawn-War, having died long before it began.
- #### Post Dawn-War
Sardior is little known among most mortals today, but he has not been forgotten. He is remembered by the gem dragons who came from him, and by the scholars and practitioners of psionics who see him as the first master of their art.
### Modern Worship of Sardior
Sardior has no worship in the usual sense, for he is dead and answers no prayers. Instead, he is remembered and honoured. Most gem dragons keep a ruby on a pedestal in their lairs as a shrine to him, and some believe that fragments of his shattered mind live on within them. Among mortals, those who know of the gem dragons, and those who study psionics, pay their respects to the Ruby Dragon as the first-born of dragonkind in Aeborhia and the first master of the mind.
