### About
The Luxon is an Elder Deity, one of only two known to have touched Aeborhia, alongside Harkon, and the oldest divine presence the world has known. Unlike the gods of the Pantheon, the Luxon holds no domains, lays down no laws and has never been known to speak to those who revere it. Scholars instead describe it as a vast and raw power, a force of potential able to bend time and gravity, whose essence now rests scattered across the world in the crystalline relics known as the Luxon Beacons. It is worshipped openly in only one place above ground, the Grey Drow city of Muxnir on the southern coast of Vangrallag, where it is revered as an all-knowing and all-seeing light, and where the goddess Eilistraee is honoured as the prophet who first brought that light to the drow. To most people of Aeborhia, the Luxon is little more than a name found in old texts, if they have heard of it at all.
### Depiction
The Luxon has never been personified. Having never taken a form, nor walked among mortals as the gods of the Pantheon once did, it is never shown with a face or a body, and its faithful speak of it not as a person but as an all-knowing and all-seeing force. In art and worship it is instead represented in three ways: by the beacon itself, a twelve-sided solid of crystal resembling moonstone, often set within an ornate frame by its mortal keepers; by light, most often white, silver and purple; and by fields of slowly drifting stars, said to mirror the light that turns within each beacon. The great stained glass windows of the Cathedral of Light in Muxnir show Eilistraee dancing before a beacon rather than her traditional moon, the tiara of the Radiant Light is set with moonstones cut in the shape of beacons, and the robes of Muxnir's highest mages are woven with stars that move as if alive.
### Divine Domains
The Luxon grants no domains, and no cleric of Aeborhia has ever been known to receive power from it in the way the gods of the Pantheon bestow their gifts upon the faithful. Its power is instead studied. Those that Muxnir calls the 'clerics' of the Luxon are in truth established and deeply learned wizards, who have spent years gazing into the beacons and witnessing the possibilities held within them. From this study comes the art known as Dunamancy, the manipulation of time and gravity, a magic focused above all on the power of potential - of what could be, rather than what is. These wizards are also the faith's theologians, piecing together the history of the Luxon and offering theories of their own, for nothing of its true nature has ever been confirmed.
### Holy Day
The Luxon has no holy day.
### Tenets of the Luxon
As the Luxon has never spoken to its followers, it has given them no commandments. The tenets of its faith are mortal-made, drawn by the scholars of Muxnir from what they have witnessed within the beacons and from the example of Eilistraee, and carried to the faithful by its priests.
- Seek what could be, for every moment holds a thousand possibilities.
- Guard the light, for each beacon is a fragment of something greater than gods.
- Bare yourself before the light, hiding nothing, so that it may see you and reach you.
### History
The history of the Luxon itself is largely theoretical, pieced together by the scholars of Muxnir from what they have seen within the beacons. The history of its faith, however, is well recorded.
- #### Before the Founding
The Luxon is believed to have arrived in Aeborhia thousands of years before the gods of the Pantheon, when the world held little to no life. It is generally accepted that at some point it split itself into the many Luxon Beacons, though why it did so remains one of the great debates of Muxnir's scholars, who hold a number of competing theories:
- **The Seeding Theory** - The most widely held belief. The Luxon split itself willingly, scattering its beacons across the world in the hope of being uncovered by sentient beings, so that it might learn from them.
- **The Shattering Theory** - The Luxon did not split by choice, but was broken apart, whether by the Primordials or by something older still. Those who hold this view see the beacons not as seeds, but as wreckage.
- **The Dormant Theory** - The Luxon sleeps, its consciousness spread thin across every beacon, and each beacon that is found and studied wakes it a little more.
- **The Creator Theory** - The Luxon created all life on Aeborhia, but feeling guilt over the violent and chaotic nature of the Primordials, it split itself apart, to remain hidden until it is found and assembled by more peaceful people.
- #### The Age of Founding
No record from the Age of Founding mentions the Luxon or its beacons. While the gods of the Pantheon shaped the world, battled the Primordials and divided in the Schism, the beacons lay hidden and undisturbed, their existence seemingly unknown even to the gods.
- #### The Age of Arcanum
During the Age of Arcanum, on one of her many quests into the Underdark against her mother Lolth, Eilistraee uncovered an artifact unlike anything she had seen before, a beacon holding a power greater than her own, and greater even than that of her parents, the greater Deities Corellon and Lolth. She learned what she could from it, and spread its light to those who followed her. The descendants of these followers, who served both Eilistraee and the Luxon, became the Grey Drow, distinct from the black drow, who descend from those who served Lolth or who were freed by Eilistraee without ever knowing the Luxon's light.
Later in the age, these followers built a city on a river island on the southern coast of Vangrallag, long before it became the Dead Lands. Eilistraee founded the city herself when she lit its first flame, a purple flame that still burns atop its monument in the city today, and appointed her champion of the time, Nilkairn, as the first king of Muxnir and the first Radiant Light.
- #### The Dawn-War
When the Dawn-War turned Vangrallag into the Dead Lands, Muxnir was spared. The great concentration of beacons held within the city seemed to repel the spread of the corruption, leaving Muxnir a safe haven in the heart of a dying land. The forces of the Betrayer Gods that marched upon the city were beaten back by its powerful wizards, assisted by Eilistraee herself between her campaigns against the Betrayer Gods elsewhere in the world. To the scholars of Muxnir, the city's survival remains the clearest proof of the beacons' power.
- #### Post Dawn-War
With the Divergence, Eilistraee left the Material Plane alongside the other gods, but the faith she founded endured. Muxnir remained the heart of the Luxon's worship, ruled by an unbroken line of Radiant Lights and guided by the scholars of the Onyx Tower. In Godsnight 3068 PD, the Onyx Tower began excavating a residuum mine in which the priests of Muxnir had foreseen the presence of a beacon, which Dinzar Zaphral called "above all, the most sacred prize they could find". At the time of writing, it has yet to be found.
### Modern Worship of the Luxon
The Muxnirian faith is the de facto faith of the Luxon in Aeborhia, and one of the least known. Outside of Muxnir it is not publicly worshipped anywhere above ground, and the average person of Aeborhia would know nothing of it. Beneath the surface, small cells worship in secret throughout the Underdark, and a handful of Underdark cities follow the faith as openly as Muxnir itself. No place is known to worship the Luxon alone, apart from Eilistraee. It should be noted that this faith differs greatly from the more common worship of Eilistraee elsewhere in the world, whose followers dance beneath the moonlight.
In Muxnir, the faith centres on the Cathedral of Light, which serves as both temple and royal palace. Within its central vault, which also serves as its prayer room, nineteen beacons are kept. Prayer takes the form of dance: the faithful dance naked around a beacon, as Eilistraee once did, baring all of themselves so that the light may see and reach them. Where no beacon is available, a brazier takes its place.
The faith's clergy is split in two. Its 'clerics' are the wizards of Muxnir, scholars who study the beacons and who are the source of the faith's theories and teachings. Its priests are the storytellers, conveying the words of the wizards to the masses, and the guardians of the beacons, with some travelling alongside the royal family.
Beyond the nineteen held in the Cathedral of Light, a number of other beacons are known to exist:
- One held by the Onyx Tower in Muxnir, for study.
- One within the Moonlit Outpost on the Moonlit Path, a secret to most.
- One held by Strixhaven University.
- Two held by the Aekaciran Mage's Guild.
- One said to be held by the famous adventuring group, Group 8274.
- A number held in royal courts and private collections, where they are treated as royal artifacts. Their owners are often courted by Muxnirian dignitaries.
