### About
The inspiration behind many great inventions, the creation of vast cities, and law and order within society, Erathis claims dominion over civilisation. Judges and rulers pay respect at her temples, which are central structures in many cities across many countries in Aeborhia. Peace and order through structure and law guides the will of her devout followers. The Law Bearer has a romantic relationship with Melora the Wild Mother, a furious love that is tempered only when civilisation and nature are in balance.
### Depiction
Erathis is shown in most texts and statues as a hooded, armoured woman sitting atop a throne of pillars. Her face is generally obscured or depicted without expression, giving her presence an impartial yet imposing nature.
### Divine Domains
Many of the Lawbearer's clerics are granted powers of knowledge or order.
### Holy Day
Erathis' holy day is Civilisation's Dawn, which is celebrated on the twenty-second day of the ninth month. In the Stacien Empire, people celebrate by having feasts in honour of the laws of the Empire, separating man from beast. One seat at every table is left open for the king, who eats in spirit with the people he rules. In Zeshana, this day is seen as their Freedom day. They celebrate when High Jarl Arnbjorn killed the ruling tyrant Erik the Cruel and gave the people of Zeshana the freedom to rule themselves. In Aekacira, it marks the start of the Week of Councils, where the monarchs of each kingdom get together in Kraesuine to discuss matters of state.
### Commandments of Erathis
- Utilise the company and aid of others. The efforts of the individual often pale against the capabilities of the community.
- Strive to tame the wilds in the name of civilisation, and defend the points of light and order against the chaos of darkness.
- Uphold and revere the spirit of invention. Create new settlements, build where inspiration strikes, and expand the edicts of the Law Bearer.
### History
- #### The Age of Founding
When Corellon created the Elves and Moradin created the Dwarves, Erathis watched over these races and planted within them the seeds of civilisation. The Elves went on to build empires devoted to their patron god Corellon, and his wife Lolth. The Dwarves used the Lawbearer's blessings to invent great machines to combat the never-ending wrath of the Primordials, constantly destroying the creations of mortals.
Eventually, after watching over the creations of the other gods, Erathis and Melora created the Humans, endowed with hearts of passion to bring meaning to the world as it shifted towards an orderly form. Yet in their hearts burned a spark of chaos, cursing them with short life just as it had blessed them with unquenchable ambitions.
During the Schism, the servants of the Betrayer God Torog rose from the Underdark to fall upon the young cities of Erathis, dragging their people down into the dark to be imprisoned and tortured. Erathis drew the Crawling King out by offering herself as bait, walling one of her cities in Stacia and letting it seem unguarded, and Torog came up out of the earth to claim it. Once he was above ground, Pelor pierced his body with ten thousand lances of sunlight, and together the two gods cast him deep into the Far Realm. The city has long since fallen to ruin, and its name and location have been lost.
- #### The Age of Arcanum
Erathis was one of the few gods worshipped by the mages in the Age of Arcanum. The Lawbearer was praised for an everlasting peace and as technology advanced, so did civilisation. While mages built flying cities powered by pure arcanum, those who could not wield arcane magic were left behind, unable to catch up with such advances. Erathis and Melora helped guide these people, choosing Aekacira (Continent) as their home. Erathis resided in Kraesuine, ruling over the civilised lands, separated from the Wild Lands by the Diskarn Mountains. The Wild Lands were ruled by Melora, from her Grove on an island in the centre of this region.
- #### The Dawn-War
Erathis was one of the main fighters in the Dawn-War. Rather than fighting any one god in particular, the Lawbearer tried to protect any civilisations that came under threat. When Tiamat arrived at Rexsall to present Bahamut with the body of his first son, Erathis stood by him in the battle that ensued. Together, they defeated Tiamat and sealed her in a prison on Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. It is said that she struck a deal with Asmodeus in order to achieve this, and that he left the Material Plane willingly to oblige.
- #### Post Dawn-War
At the end of the Dawn-War, with all Betrayer Gods sealed away, Bahamut put forward the idea for all Deities to leave the Material Plane and form a barrier to prevent any from re-entering the world. Erathis was the first to stand and agree, knowing that this would be the only way to protect all that mortals had created. This was eventually done in the Divergence.
In the year 3004 PD, a warrior from Vogkerd, in Zeshana, led a rebellion against the Tyrant king Erik the Cruel. For forty years prior, Erik had been ruling over Zeshana like a dictator, sending soldiers to pillage towns and villages that could not pay his protection fees. The hero Arnbjorn, now High Jarl of Zeshana, liberated the country and executed Erik on Erathis' holy day, starting a new government in her name. A system where all settlements ruled themselves, and met yearly in Trumont to discuss joint affairs. In the Lawbearer's name, Zeshana has enjoyed almost 70 years of peace, with only a few worries when the Empire invaded Troistan.
### Modern Worship of Erathis
Erathis, the Lawbearer, is one of the most widely revered Deities across the known world, her worship deeply entwined with the rise of civilization itself. In both Stacia and Aekacira she is honoured above most others, and in Aekacira she is venerated as the patron deity. Her ancient throne of Kraesuine, once a symbol of her divine presence, now serves as the seat of the High Monarch and the gathering place of Aekacira's kings and queens, tying mortal rule directly to her authority. Temples and shrines to Erathis can be found in every village, town, and city, many serving also as courts where law and faith are upheld as one.
Her church is highly structured: priests tend to local temples, bishops oversee entire regions or kingdoms, and high priests or priestesses guide continents. Together they form a council that governs her faith with unity and order. The Champion of Erathis, honoured with a title similar to her own - the Lawbringer - sits as an advisor on this council, wielding influence but no command. Beyond the council, the Champion leads the Zeshanan Order of Peace, a devoted brotherhood charged with upholding justice and maintaining harmony throughout Zeshana, their word carrying the weight of divine authority.
